SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Candidates running for four public offices faced off in a series of evening debates Wednesday night.
"Rally in the Valley II," was a student-led exercise in grassroots, local politics hosted by the school's Government Club. The public was welcome to attend.
On the agenda, a series of candidate debates and student debates of three ballot initiatives, as follows:
- Amy Biviano vs. Matt Shea - 4th District, State Representative
- John Roskelly vs. Todd Mielke - County Commissioner, District 1
- Daryl Romeyn vs. Shelly O'Quinn – County Commissioner, District 2
- Rich Cowen* vs. Cathy McMorris Rogers* – 5th Congressional Legislative District (*Surrogates will stand in for Cowen and McMorris Rogers)
- Student debates:
- Referendum 74 – Jesse Sheldon (pro) vs. McKay Demars (con)
- Initiative 502 – Will Kable (pro) vs. John Schutts (con)
- Initiative 1240 – Nick Mortimer (pro) vs. Hailey Reneau (con)
Ballots are due by 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 6th.
