SPOKANE, WASH. - On Wednesday, Avista Utilities personnel reported a large quantity of copper wire was stolen between October 16th and October 24th.
Avista employees told Spokane County Sheriff's Department that sometime within that time frame over one-half mile of wire had been stolen from their substation on Dahl Road. Another 450 to 500 feet of copper wire had been stolen from their Little Spokane substation during the same time frame as well.
Between July and October, crews have spent nearly an entire month replacing and repairing equipment from these thefts. Avista estimates the scrap value of the stolen copper at $595.00, yet the total cost to replace and repair hardware from these thefts is nearly $12,000.00.
