Cougars Cruise Past Simon Fraser In Exhibition

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University posted a 67-52 exhibition victory over visiting Simon Fraser University at Beasley Coliseum Tuesday.

The Cougars forced 33 turnovers behind 17 steals and held SFU to 30.0 percent shooting including 0-14 from behind the arc in the second half. WSU saw all 14 active players appear in the game as freshman guard Lia Galdeira led the way with 12 points, four rebounds and five steals. Seniors Katie Grad and Carly Noyes each added eight points while junior Hana Potter and freshmen Taylor Edmondson and Mariah Cooks all finished with seven.

Tied at 23 with 5:44 remaining the first half, the Cougars used an 8-2 run over a four minute span to open up a six point lead before Simon Fraser hit the last of its eight threes to cut the lead to three, 31-28 at the break.

Washington State opened the second half with eight straight points highlighted by sophomore guard Tia Presley's layup and long three to build a 39-28 advantage. The Cougars forced five turnovers and held SFU scoreless in the first four minutes of the second period and never looked back.

WSU kept is lead no lower than seven the rest of the game and later stretched the advantage to 18 with just under four minutes to go after a couple buckets from Galdeira and fellow freshman Mariah Cooks.

Eleven Cougars registered points as they finished the game shooting 42.4 percent from the floor. Simon Fraser was led by Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe's 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Washington State will host Western Oregon University Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for its final exhibition contest. WSU opens the season next weekend against the University of Minnesota at the Best Buy Classic in Minneapolis.
