PULLMAN, Wash. -

Washington State returned to the practice field Monday for the first time since losing to Stanford on Saturday. So, how do they feel after another loss? Not as bad as you might think.

The Cougars insist they don't believe in moral victories, but they are still proud of how they played. Offense, defense and special teams all made key plays to keep them in the ball game.

Quarterback Jeff Tuel knows if his teammates keep giving that kind of effort, things will eventually start going their way.

"This football team has shown a lot of toughness, and not so much at times," said Tuel. "I think toughness is a matter of consistency. Just because we show up one game doesn't mean we're a mentally tough football team, but I think it's going to keep growing and building. If we can take teams down to the wire like that a few will end up going our way."

Washington State will have an opportunity to put it all together Saturday when they travel to Salt Lake City to play Utah. The game starts at noon and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks.
