A week after Central Valley put an end to Gonzaga Prep's perfect season, the Bullpups hosted Chiawana in a 4A Play-in game to the state playoffs.
The Bullpups entered averaging 407 yards on the ground and Zach Bonneau almost reached that himself, eclipsing the 300-yard mark for the second straight game. Bonneau racked up 309 yards with five touchdowns (four rushing) and Griffin Hare added 252 yards with three more scores as Gonzaga Prep eliminated the Riverhawks with a 55-28 victory.
The Chiawana passing attack fought hard to keep up as Joey Zamora threw for 367 yards and three touchdowns, and they only trailed by a touchdown late in the 3rd quarter.
But the Bullpups tallied the final 20 points in the 55-28 win and will host Union next week in the 1st round of the 4A state playoffs.
Mead will also advance to the state playoffs with a 17-0 victory over Richland.
Kamiakin at University
In a 3A Play-in game, heroics were needed for a berth to state after the Braves kicked a go-ahead field goal with just a minute and a half remaining.
Down by two points, University needed a field goal to extend their season. They got more.
Jeff Beaty hooked up with Austin Flynn for a 33-yard touchdown and a date with the state playoffs next weekend.
