Americans Remain Undefeated Against Silvertips with 3-2 win

From Tri-City Americans

Kennewick, WA- Whenever Everett has stepped on the ice with Tri-City this season, the result has always ended with an Americans win.

This game was no different, as the Tri-City Americans (10-6-1-1, 22 pts) scored two in the third period to edge the Everett Silvertips (6-10-0-2, 14 pts) 3-2 in front of 3,910 at the Toyota Center.

With the win, the Americans have won the first four games of the season, the last five games in the regular season, and the last nine games including the playoffs against Everett.

The first period was uneventful with minor scoring chances until Drydn Dow took a cross checking penalty at the end of the period. It allowed Stathis Soumelidis to score on a Landon Oslanski rebound with 39 seconds left in the period to make it 1-0. Everett outshot Tri-City 9-5, but both teams had two power plays in the period.

The Americans would tie the game midway through the second period. Beau McCue held the puck in the corner and fed it to the front of the goal, where it bounced off of Everett's Mirco Mueller into the net to tie the game at one. The Americans had a couple of good chances to take the lead, including Lucas Nickles ringing a shot off the post. Tri-City outshot Everett 12-6 in the second, and carried the momentum heading into the third period.

Everett's Ryan Harrison received a penalty for roughing, giving the Americans a power play to start the third. And it cost the Silvertips, as Brian Williams slapped a Justin Feser rebound into the goal 23 seconds into the period to give the Americans a 2-1 lead.

But it wasn't long until the Silvertips would tie the game. Kohl Bauml scored a power play goal as he tumbled to the ice to bring the Silvertips even with the Americans early in the third. The Americans would retake the lead a couple minutes later. Two Everett penalties in a row gave the Americans a minute with a 5-on-3 power play. They wouldn't need the full minute, as Malte Strömwall would put the puck into the back of the net to give the Ams a 3-2 lead. Everett made a push at the end of the game, but couldn't get one past Eric Comrie to tie the game as Tri-City held on for the win.

With two assists, Feser ties Ian McDonald and Patrick Holland for 12th on the Americans all-time assists list. He is now one point shy of tying Kruise Reddick for 12th on the all-time points list.

Comrie made 19 saves in the win, while Austin Lotz made 25 saves in the loss.

Tri-City will play their second game of the weekend tomorrow, Nov. 3 when they welcome the Red Deer Rebels (9-8-1-1, 20 pts) for their lone appearance at the Toyota Center. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. The Americans lost at Red Deer last season 3-2 in overtime. Last time the Rebels came to Kennewick, they left with a 5-3 victory and are currently on a three game winning streak against Tri-City.
