POLSON, Mont. (AP) - A 45-year-old Polson man faces his ninth DUI charge after leading police on a chase that ended with officers swimming after him in Flathead Lake.

Assistant Police Chief John Stevens told the Missoulian that Todd Burland was pulled out of the water about 200 yards from shore and arrested on suspicion of felony DUI after being evaluated at the hospital.

Stevens says officers responded to a report that a vehicle was high-centered in a parking lot on Main Street at about 7:30 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived the vehicle was driving away. Officers pursued the vehicle as it drove through a park and into Flathead Lake.

Several officers entered the water. A Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal police officer caught up with Burland, who was loaded into a rescue boat.
