Police In Washington State Seek Direction On Marijuana Busts

Posted: Updated:

COSMOPOLIS, Wash. (AP) - Cosmopolis Police Chief Casey Stratton says his department has been working for more than a month on what would have been considered a large marijuana bust, prior to the passage of Initiative 502.

Now the investigation is on hold.

Stratton told KBKW (kbkw.com) he's asking the Grays Harbor County prosecutor for guidance and waiting for more federal response to the law decriminalizing the possession of up to an ounce of marijuana.

The Justice Department says federal controlled substances laws are unchanged by the state.

The initiative takes effect Dec. 6, although it will take a year to draft regulations for the sale of recreational marijuana.
