Deputies, First Responders, Neighbors Honored At Banquet

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Recognition was handed out Thursday evening, nearly five months after Charles Wallace shot two Spokane County Sheriff's deputies and led dozens of others on a high speed chase.

On June 19th, Deputies Mike Northway and Matt Spink were wounded after attempting to make a traffic stop in North Spokane.

Charles Wallace opened fire on the two, hitting each Deputy before stealing another car and fleeing.

The Deputies were able to radio for help while giving dispatchers a description of Wallace.

Minutes later, Deputy Dan Dutton found himself in the middle of a high speed pursuit of a man who had just shot two of his fellow Deputies.

Dutton helped to safely end a chase that reached speeds of nearly 120 miles-per-hour.

Deputy Dutton received one of the Sheriff's Department's highest honors Thursday evening, the Medal of Honor.

Both Deputies Northway and Spink were also honored with Purple Hearts.

Both remain at home recovering from their injuries.

First responders and neighbors who helped those Deputies were also recognized for their life-saving actions.
