General Caught Up In Petraeus Scandal

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The nomination of Gen. John Allen to become commander of NATO forces in Europe is now on hold, as he's being investigated in the sex scandal involving ex-CIA Director David Petraeus and a writer.

Petraeus' mistress allegedly sent threatening emails to a Petraeus friend in Florida, and Allen is now accused of "inappropriate communications" with the Florida woman.

Meanwhile, the FBI is preparing a timeline of the criminal investigation that exposed Petraeus' extramarital affair so it can explain to lawmakers why they weren't notified of the probe months ago.

The White House wasn't informed of the FBI investigation until Election Day, and the head of the Senate Intelligence Committee says she first learned of the matter from the media late last week.
