Spokane - University High School keeps on defying the critics and Saturday punched their ticket to the 3A Washington state semifinals, knocking off North Thurston 23-10.
The first half was particularly slow with the lone touchdown coming from a Jeff Beaty pass to Austin Flynn.
In the second half, the Titans caught another spark with Adrian Bonner returning the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. University followed that scored with a fumble recovery that led to a Jeff Beaty touchdown run.
Those touchdowns proved to be more than enough as the Titans held on to win by 13. Next Saturday, University will host Eastside Catholic out at Joe Albi Stadium
The GSL has less success in 4A on Saturday. Gonzaga Prep fell to Bellarmine Prep on a last second field goal by Matthew Philichi to 32-29.
For the Bullpups, Griffin Hare ran for 137 yards with three touchdown, while quarterback Zach Bonneau added another 121 yards on the ground.
The other GSL game in 4A had Mead falling to Auburn 21-7.
The Panthers went down 14-0 at halftime, until Davian Barlow finally put Mead on the board in the third quarter with a six yard touchdown run. However, that was the only score of the game as the Panthers were held to just 222 total yards.
In other state playoff action, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague continued their undefeated season by beating Desales 21-14. The Broncos move on to play Waitsburg-Prescott in the 2B state semifinals after the Cardinals beat Reardan on Saturday 39-12.
