Lexie Nelson of the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team was one of six elite players named to the Cal Classic by Doubletree All-Tournament team. Eastern went 1-1 at the Thanksgiving tournament in Berkeley, Calif., with a 91-58 loss to No. 11 California (Nov. 23), and a 50-45 victory over Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 24).

California's Layshia Clarendon was tabbed as the tournament MVP, while her teammates Talia Caldwell and Brittany Boyd, as well Georgetown's Sugar Rogers and Andrea White were also included on the six-person All-Tournament team.

Nelson averaged 10.0 points per game over the weekend, while also tallying four assists, three rebounds and one steal. The sophomore guard was especially effective at the free throw line, knocking down 12 of her 14 attempts.

She had a team-leading 15 points in Eastern's win over Cal State Fullerton, 12 of which came at the charity stripe. She played a game-high 34 minutes, and had three assists with just two turnovers against the Titans.

Nelson is Eastern's leading scorer thus far in the 2012-13 campaign, averaging 13 points per game, which also ranks among the top 10 in the Big Sky. She has started all five games in her first official season with the Eagles, playing an average of 31.4 minutes per game. Nelson has got to the free throw line twice as many times as any other player on the team this year, converting an impressive 29-of-35 attempts.

Eastern will play at Idaho on Tuesday (Nov. 27) in its only game this week. Tipoff from the Cowan Spectrum in Moscow is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Winning one Big Sky Championship is a huge accomplishment and winning two is unforgettable, but winning five is downright unreal. And writing about his own exploits is even tougher.
