Chris Tormey is an Idaho alum. He played football for the Vandals. His first full time coaching job was in Moscow. And soon he could become his alma mater's new football coach for the second time.
FootballScoop.com reported Tormey, who is currently the defensive coordinator at Wyoming, will be in town on Tuesday for an interview to replace fired head coach Robb Akey.
Earlier this month, the Star-Tribune newspaper in Wyoming quoted Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman as saying he "assumed" Tormey would be a candidate. His current contract pays him $165,000 through 2013 – excluding bonuses.
Tormey was hired in 1995 to be Idaho's head coach. He stayed in Moscow for four seasons and took the Vandals to their first bowl game in 1998 - a win against Mississippi State. He was the Big West Coach of the Year that year. After that he left for Nevada, and then several jobs as an assistant until he landed in Wyoming last year as defensive coordinator.
Other candidates include Jason Gesser, who is currently the interim head coach; and Jeff Choate, the linebackers coach at Washington State.
