After a sensation season as a freshman, averaging more than 13 points per game, Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos has picked up right where he left off.
In a sit-down interview with play-by-play man Greg Heister, the sophomore point guard said he has a leadership role to fill this year – something he has gladly taken on.
"You're not always going to be liked as a leader, sometimes you'll have to push some buttons but I feel like I'm ready to do that," he said.
What about the YouTube video? "That was just us having fun…. We thought the season is getting close and we were in the gym shooting and stuff, and we can only be in the gym so long working on our game, right?… We got in here and tried this and tried that… and we kept thinking of more and got into rafters on top…. And then six minutes later we have this clip."
What are your expectations? "For me, I want to change my game, I don't want to settle for what happened last year. What happened last year – I thought there was a lot of catch and shooting…. For me I want to stay consistent and add pieces to my game."
About Steve Nash and comparisons The comparisons between Steve Nash and Pangos are there for all to see. They are both Canadians, both point guards and both play(ed) in the WCC.
"I am comfortable with [the comparison] but at the same time I am not. Steve Nash is Steve Nash and I've seen the way he's played, I've seen what he does. He's a one of a kind player. Would I like to get to the same level he is? Yeah…. But I'm going to make my own style of game."
