SANDPOINT, Idaho - A woman accused of leaving the scene of an accident that killed Spokane police officer Kurt Hensen will face new charges.

KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus confirms with Bonner County prosecutor Louis Marshall that authorities have completed the investigation against Brianna Knapp and will formally charge her on December 21st for leaving the scene of an injury crash which is a felony.

In September prosecutors dropped felony charges against Knapp for, "leaving the scene of a crash resulting in injury or death" because they believed they did not have enough evidence to charge her at the time. Knapp will make her appearance in a Bonner County courtroom on December 21st.

Knapp was also charged with two misdemeanor charges of driving without privileges and failure to provide insurance after the crash in which she pled not guilty to. Spokane police officer Kurt Hensen was off duty during the accident and was riding his motorcycle near Clark Fork Idaho on highway 200 when investigators say he lost control on rough pavement in a construction zone.

Investigators say Hensen and his passenger were un hurt after tipping the bike. Moments later investigators say a pickup driven by Brianna Knapp hit and killed Kurt Hensen on the road while he was off of his motorcycle.

Knapp who was allegedly driving the pickup then fled the scene and what investigators described as a "good Samaritan" then picked Knapp up on the road after her truck became disabled. It was not until nearly 24 hours after the crash, on July 25th that Knapp turned herself in to Bonner County authorities.

Investigators found a "cup of alcohol" in her truck after searching it the night of the crash but in an interview with investigators Knapp said she was not drinking at the time of the crash.

Brianna Knapp, 28, did not have a valid drivers license stemming from a 2006 DUI conviction when authorities say she hit and killed off duty Spokane police officer Kurt Hensen.
