COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - It's not quite Carnegie Hall, but the hall that leads you into Fred Meyer is filled with just as much soul. The sounds you'll hear this time of year go far beyond what you might expect from someone ringing a Salvation Army bell.
Dave Farmer says the Salvation Army and the generous people, keep him coming back to entertain and ring his bell.
"I love it, he knows the words to every song," said customer John Reed.
When Dave started ringing 3-years ago, he soon discovered the fine acoustics that the hall had to offer.
"It was this very spot I noticed there was a great echo in this room. I just got the courage to sing a song one day when no body was between the doors," said farmer.
So singing just stuck.
Farmer, a former construction worker and Pastor, credits his God given talent to sing his entire shift, with bell in hand.
Farmer says he sang, "about 5.5 hours a day, last year I almost sang 6.5 hours a day."
Laid off and with little work, it seemed singing and donating his time was the right thing to do, and the only thing, until he was offered back his construction job this year.

Dave had been laid off from his construction job, but his boss called him this year to say he had work and could come back this year, but Dave already promised the Salvation Army he would ring and sing this year, so he asked his boss to find someone else.
He's actually been doing this for a couple of years inside Fred Meyer.
