Spokane Family Nearly Lost Three Thousand Dollars In Scam

SPOKANE, WASH. - A viewer contacted KHQ's Dan Kleckner through his Facebook page earlier this week looking for information about a possible scam.

Greg said his mother had been getting calls from a place called William Scott and Associates. They told his family if they didn't pay 3-thousand dollars, his dad would be going to jail for fraud.

His mother found a way to pay the money with the help of his aunt, but thankfully they were able to cancel the payment once they realized it was a scam.

The Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office both confirmed this type of debt collection work is a scam. The Attorney General's Office has advice on their website as to how to avoid these scams, you can find a link here:
