UPDATE: Woman Required Surgery After Deer Attack

Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON, Mont. (AP) - An 84-year-old Florence area woman who was attacked by a captive deer is recovering after undergoing surgery at a Missoula hospital.

Ravalli County Under sheriff Perry Johnson tells the Ravalli Republic (http://bit.ly/12nkfYA ) the woman suffered severe injuries in the attack Tuesday morning. He says a ranch hand found the woman with her clothing ripped and torn. He says he was told it looked like a "significant battlefield."

The woman's name has not been released. The 5-year-old whitetail buck was euthanized.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens had talked with the landowners several years ago following reports that they were keeping a captive deer. After being told the deer was free to come and go as it pleased, the matter was dropped.
