Yakima Man Sleeping in Box for Charity Outside Wray's Chalet

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A man in Yakima will spend the next four days sleeping in a box to raise awareness for those in need.

David McKinney will sit outside Wray's Chalet as part of "Operation Tin Cup", which stands for "Those In Need… Can U Pitch in?".

McKinney is collecting cash, food, and toy donations for the Salvation Army and Union Gospel Mission.

Last year, he collected 11-thousand dollars in cash and more than three tons of food and other donations.

"It feels great to be able to help those people that really need our help the most... during the cold weather, particularly, at Christmas time," McKinney said.

The Union Gospel Mission says they're happy to see the donations because their need has increased this year.

You can find David outside Wray's Chalet on 56th Avenue and Summitview. He'll be there until Monday afternoon.
