SPOKANE, Wash. - Starting next year, Washington State will require most residential homes to install a carbon monoxide detector. State guidelines will require that a carbon monoxide detector be installed on every level of the home, and be placed outside every sleeping area in the home.
Hotels, college dorms, boarding homes and residential treatment facilities will not have to install these detectors, but they do have set requirements that have to be met.
If you bought a home any time before July 26th, 2009, than you do not have to install a carbon monoxide detector until you decide to sell the home.
