UPDATE: WSP Releases Name Of Woman Killed On Hwy. 2

UPDATE: The Washington State Patrol have identified the woman who was hit by a car Tuesday night on Highway 2. Her name is Dorothy Ryan. She was 47.

PREVIOUS STORY:

MEAD, Wash. – The woman who was hit by a car and died while she was walking in the northbound lanes of Highway 2 in Mead Tuesday night, still has not been identified; but WSP has released more information about her.

She was not carrying any identification, but WSP says she's a white woman who appears to be older than 35, with brown hair and eyes, and was wearing all black.

"We heard what sounded like a big pop. My husband said, ‘Maybe somebody rear-ended someone,' it sounded like a vehicle hitting a pole or a tree or something," said Sara Cramer, who lives right where the crash happened.  "We walked out to the end of the driveway, and we could see somebody laying on the side of the road, and a little red car parked on the side of the street here."

The driver of that red car is a 20-year-old woman from Chattaroy, and told police she didn't see the woman in the middle of the road until it was too late.  She will likely not face any charges.

"It's was just really shocking to hear what he heard and then to think, ‘Oh it's just a fender bender, no big deal,' and then to find out there was a person that got hit on the side of the road, it's just shocking," Cramer added.

WSP says the woman who was killed may have been drinking before the crash.  If you have a loved one that hasn't come home since 8pm Tuesday, WSP asks you to call them.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Washington State Patrol says one woman has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car on Highway 2 across from Big R Tuesday evening.

Authorities say the driver of the vehicle told them she did not see the woman standing in the road until it was too late. The victim has not been identified, but we are told she is in her 30's. Her exact injuries are unknown, but we are told she has compound fracture and low blood pressure. Troopers say the injuries are very serious.

Troopers say alcohol does not appear to be a factor for the driver, but it does appear the pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol.

One lane of northbound Highway 2 is blocked while the investigation continues.
