BLOG: What's Up With the Sacramento Kings?

Updated:

The other day when I heard the Maloofs were close to a deal to sell the Sacramento Kings to Chris Hansen in Seattle, I couldn't believe it. That is a big deal. But apparently, the deal is not as close as some were led to believe.

It seemed to me that such a deal would take longer to materialize – both in and out of the public eye. It turns out I was right.

The Seattle Times said Thursday that the Maloof brothers want to retain some control over the Kings if they decide to sell. Who would want those kind of strings when buying something for something close to $500,000? Not me, and apparently not Hansen.

The Seattle PI said Hansen and the Maloofs have been talking for about a week. KING 5 TV said they have been in discussions for months.

Do I believe the Maloofs will relent in the end? I do. Where there is smoke there is fire, as they say. I believe Seattle will become a hot NBA market once again. But it will take time.
