Posted: Updated:

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Rocky Mountain Power says 14,700 customers in southeastern Idaho woke up Monday morning without power as overnight temperatures dipped below zero and the wind made it feel much colder.

The Monday morning outage affects Ashton, Rexburg, St. Anthony, Sugar City and Teton. The Fremont School District in St. Anthony has announced it will not hold classes today due to the power outage.

KIFI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/13uHCA3 ) numerous other districts have announced school closures due to extreme cold, including schools in Idaho Falls.

Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Oler tells The Associated Press the outage began just after 5:30 a.m. and the cause remained unknown two hours later. She says crews were patrolling the lines looking for the source of the problem and hoped to have power restored by 11 a.m.
