UPDATE: Structure Fire In Spokane Valley

Posted: Updated:

KHQ.COM - On Tuesday morning firefighters responded to a house fire at Broadway Ave & N. Marguerite in Spokane Valley. The home was vacant at the time of the fire, firefighters say the tenants moved out a month ago.

The home may have been a drug home according to officials on the scene. Flames were shooting through the roof when crews arrived on the scene.

A neighbor called the fire in. The fire is being called suspicious, the home is most likely a complete loss. Authorities tell us that the owner has been visiting the home lately to make repairs.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE VALLEY FIRE DEPT:

Spokane Valley Firefighters responded to a report of a house fire in the 8800 block of east Broadway Ave. around 7 a.m. Tuesday. The 911 caller reported flames and smoke coming out of the roof, and they could see fire through the windows.

This is a single story wood framed residence that appears vacant. Responding crews could see a large column of smoke and upgraded the fire to a working fire which added additional engines. Six engines, one rescue, and one ladder truck responded to the fire with a total of 30 firefighters including overhead personnel.

Firefighters had the fire, which caused extensive damage throughout the home, knocked down quickly, and a search inside the home was clear. Information from neighbors stated the tenants moved out about one month ago, and the owner had been working on the home doing repairs. Broadway was blocked off between Argonne west to Sargeant and traffic was diverted to allow crews to work safely.

The fire is under investigation to determine the cause and an estimate in damages.
