Spokane County Sheriff's Department Press Release:

Early this evening, Tuesday, January 15th, 23-year-old Joseph Knop was arrested for the extensive damage done at Lake City Assembly Church in Medical Lake.  Deputies responded to the church Sunday morning, January 13th, and investigated what both deputies said was the most horrific case of vandalism they had both seen.

Over the past two days, Deputy Jeff Conway and Detective Bob Sola developed information that led to the arrest of Knop.  Knop was contacted at his residence this evening near the 500 block of East Campbell in Medical Lake.  Knop admitted he caused the damage to the church this past weekend and also told Detective Sola he had several items he stole from the church inside his house.  These items included electronics, musical instruments and other items taken this past weekend.  The property was returned to the church this evening.

  • Knop was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the charges of 2nd Degree Burglary and 1st Degree Malicious Mischief.
