OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM MEALS ON WHEELS: This week the Feed Spokane van was broken into. The thieves took three heavy-duty batteries used to run the van's lift gate and refrigeration system.
The incident occurred at the Haney Trucking Yard at 5800 E Railroad Avenue in the Spokane Valley.
Feed Spokane is coalition of non-profits that address hunger issues. The van is used to collect left over food donations from area restaurants, stores, and other vendors. The food collected is stored at GSC Meals on Wheels' kitchen in east Spokane. Feed Spokane members pick up food donations according to what they need and can use.
The theft represents a financial
blow to the group that has already seen a decrease in donations since the
economic recession.
