Tri-City Edges Spokane in Overtime 4-3

Tri-City scored just 21-seconds into overtime as the Americans defeated the Chiefs 4-3 in front of a sellout crowd of 10,366 fans at the Spokane Arena Saturday night. Brenden Kichton notched two assists to extend his point scoring streak to 11 games as the Chiefs fell to 15-7-0-0 at home and 28-17-1-0 overall.

The Chiefs wore special military jerseys and raised over $15,000 for Chiefs Care and The Wounded Warrior Project in a silent auction.

Spokane piled up 18 shots to just six for the Americans in the first period, but nearly came away empty-handed. Tri-City scored the game's first goal at 11:40 with Parker Bowles' first of two on the night.

The Chiefs finally beat Americans' goalie Luke Lee-Knight at the 19:49 mark as Todd Fiddler found the back of the net off a stellar feed from Kichton, with Blake Gal also chipping in an assist on the score.

Spokane grabbed their first lead of the night at the 12:29 in the second with Carter Proft rebounding a shot in the slot and firing it top shelf for the score on assists from Cole Wedman and Riley Whittingham. The Chiefs outshot the Ams 9-8 for the period.

Bowles scored his second goal of the night at the 7:05 mark of the third and Jesse Mychan added another at the 11:23 mark to give Tri-City a 3-2 lead. Spokane answered at 14:40 with the equalizer as Dylan Walchuk scored on the power play with assists from Kichton and Reid Gow.

The two teams traded shots in the remaining minutes of the third but neither scored as the game went to overtime, setting up Malte Stromwall's game-winning goal in the extra period.

Williams finished 18 of 22 on save opportunities while Lee-Knight was 39 of 42. Spokane went 1 of 3 on the power play and 2 for 2 on the penalty kill.

Tonight's three stars: Luke Lee Knight (1st), Carter Proft (2nd), Maltre Stromwall (3rd).

The Chiefs travel to Portland for a game on Monday before returning home on Wednesday to host the Winterhawks for a TicketsWest Player Magnet Giveaway. Monday's game can be heard on AM 790 KJRB at 3:00 p.m.
