U Of I Releases Statement After Student Was Found Dead Near Moscow

University Statement Regarding Death of Missing Student

MOSCOW, Idaho – We are saddened by the loss of Joseph Wiederrick, a freshman at the University of Idaho. He was reported missing on Sunday, Jan. 20. Moscow Police began searching for Wiederrick in the Moscow area.

His body was found north of Moscow on Monday, Jan. 21. Our heartfelt sympathy go out to his family and friends. 

Counseling services are being provided through University Counseling Services to those affected by the loss.

MOSCOW, Idaho - Officials with  the Moscow Police Department say missing University Of Idaho student Joseph Wiederrick has been found dead.

Authorities say he was found in the 2800 block of North Mountain View Road Monday afternoon. 

Police say Wiederrick tried knocking on the door of a house in the neighborhood and a woman who answered told him to go away. They say he knocked on the door of another house, but no one answered. 

It was near those homes that Wiederrick was found dead under a bridge near a creek. Police have not said how they believe Wiederrick died, but say he did not drown.

MOSCOW, Idaho - The Moscow Police Department needs your help to find a missing University Of Idaho student missing since 1-20-13.

He's identified as 18-year-old Joseph Wiederrick. He's described to be 135 pds with blonde hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue/white/brown striped hoodie with a bright blue ski jacket. He was wearing grey "Vans" shoes with grey pants and a backpack.

Information from his phone suggests he may be in the area of Darby Rd. which is just outside of the area.
