Spokane Police: Vehicle Thief Arrested Within An Hour Of Stealing Vehicle

Posted: Updated:

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPARTMENT: On Tuesday morning a woman called Spokane Police to report that her Honda Accord had been stolen from her driveway while it was warming up. Officers completed the report and the information was broadcast to other local law enforcement.

Ofc. Dan Cole located the stolen Honda, being driven by Robert D. Basford (12/21/70), entering a parking lot near Nevada and Wellesley. Ofc. Cole found a bicycle in the back of the car, and found bicycle tracks in the snow matching that of Basford's bike. Basford also was in possession of shaved keys, which are often used by car thieves to steal cars.

Basford was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Permission (TMVWOP) as well as Possession of Motor Vehicle Theft Tools.
