MEAD, Wash. -

After two more wins – against Willamette and Linfield – the Whitworth Pirates are on a roll like no other. And it doesn't show any signs of stopping.

Last weekend's wins brought the Bucs' winning streak to 16 games. Their only loss of the season was a season-opening disappointment against No. 1 Saint Thomas.

With every win, Whitworth can see their confidence increasing, and that is thanks to how well they have played over the course of the season.

"We're playing pretty good right now," said senior guard Wade Gebbers. "We're happy with where we're at. There are still a lot of things that we can improve on. We hope we're not playing our basketball because we want to be playing that at the end of the season."

"To string off 16 definitely shows our team's heart and integrity, and how much we care about the season," said senior forward Mack Larkin.

Second-year head coach Matt Logie said his team's success has come as a result of good chemistry and teamwork.

"Our goal wasn't to go undefeated or to win a certain number of games in a row, but to reach our potential as a group," said Logie. "As we've come together I think we're all realized we've got a chance to be really special."

Whitworth's next games are on the road this week. They play at Puget Sound on Friday and at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. After that, there are just six more games until the end of the season and the beginning of the NCAA D-III Tournament.
