Athol Firefighters Giving Back To Those Affected By Impact Fees

ATHOL, Idaho - One fire district in Kootenai County is returning tens of thousands of dollars that was donated to them in order to get new equipment and facilities in the fire house.

It was stated that the fire station doing this is very rare because they could keep the money donated very easily.

The decision to do this came after Kootenai County officials had voted to suspend impact fees for 18 months. That being said, 30-residents will now get a divided up portion of 70-thousand dollars in a refund. The fire house didn't have to give the money back since it was already paid.

KHQ Local News reporter Dylan Wohlenhaus spoke with the Timberlake Fire Protection Commissioner Rudy Rudebaugh who had this to say, "Instead of just having the money sit in the bank, holding peoples money, our board decided as a whole it would be better just to refund the impact fees back. The uncertainty in the department, I don't think there is. We have our budget were given, we operate within our budget and do the best we can."

Everyone impacted by this will be receiving a letter stating how to get their refund. It is uncertain whether or not these impact fees will return.
