Stabbing Suspect Arrested In West Central Spokane

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: Spokane Police Officers arrested 21-year-old Joel M. Arevalo for allegedly stabbing his 56-year-old step grandfather.

The incident started just after 11:00 PM on Thursday in the 1800 block of west Dean. Arevalo slashed tires on the victim's truck and then forced open his apartment door. Arevalo stabbed the victim in the chest as he was still lying in bed. 

He fled on foot but Officers found him hiding a short distance away and placed him under arrest for 1st degree burglary and 1st degree assault. Officers processed the scene and believe they have recovered the knife used in the assault. 

The victim is in serious condition at a local hospital but his injuries do not appear to be life threatening. The exact motive for the attack is unclear at this time.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane County Sheriff's Office and the Spokane Police Dept. responded to a fatal drive by shooting early Wednesday afternoon in the 7000 block of North Atlantic.

When detectives located the vehicle the suspect, 19-year-old Issiah Schauman, was not inside so the search for him continues.
