PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHEIFF'S OFFICE: On Tuesday, January 29th, Spokane County
Sheriff's Office investigators working with the Pacific Northwest Violent
Offenders Task Force (PNVOTF) which is comprised of members from several
federal, state, county and city agencies received information that 38-year-old
Charles B. Fife may be or had assisted escaped Geiger inmate Michael S.
Wheeler.
Just before 4:45 p.m., at a residence located in the 800 block of South
Adams in the City of Spokane, they attempted to contact Fife but as they
approached and identified themselves, Fife ran into the residence. Not knowing
if Wheeler or anyone else was inside the residence, they setup a containment
perimeter and requested additional deputies to assist.
While additional resources were enroute, two females cooperated and exited
the residence and Fife exited later after several announcements were made by law
enforcement. When a Spokane Police Department K9 Unit arrived at the scene,
several more announcements were made advising anyone in the residence the K9
would be deployed to search the interior. Another male exited the residence and
was detained without incident.
The residence was searched and no one else was found to be inside.
Fife was transported to the Spokane County Jail and booked for misdemeanor
charges of Rendering Criminal Assistance 2nd,
Obstructing a Peace Officer and a Washington Department of Correction hold. The
three other people contacted were released without being charged.
Spokane County Sheriff's Office investigators, the Pacific Northwest
Violent Offenders Task Force and members from several additional law enforcement
agencies continue the search for Michael Wheeler and although he was not located
at this location, this is a great example of several federal, state, county and
city law enforcement agencies working together for the safety of our
citizens.
