Spokane Snow Removal Ordinance

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - According to Spokane city code, all residents and businesses are required to remove the ice and snow off the sidewalks surrounding their residence and/or business within 24-hours of a snowfall.

A violation of the ordinance can get earn a $103 dollar fine.  So far, no business or homeowner has been fined this year according to city officials.

City officials understand that many people are un-aware of the code and can get voluntary compliance through conversations.

There is a goal to educate, rather than punish people for not clearing off the sidewalks, but adds that the city just hasn't the resources to drive around and simply fine people.  They will issue citations for chronic offenders.
