Short-Lived Internet Outages Costs Local Moving Business

SPOKANE, Wash. - A short-lived Internet outage which affected about 80,000 Century Link customers had a big impact on one customer.

Charles Lynch, the owner of Movers On Call, said his Internet was down for hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, which he said, "Really hurts my business."

Lynch said he advertises solely online which meant potential customers could not see his ad during the outage. Plus, he said, he could not communicate with customers since email was down. In fact, Lynch feared the outage cost him a $1,000 job.

"We need to do what we can to survive here in Spokane. There's not many jobs. So I've come up with this business," he continued. "We load and unload trucks, been here for eight years and we're paying the bills and getting by but we count on the Internet."

For all other 80,000 Century Link customers in Spokane and the surrounding areas, Internet was back up within the hour, according to Century Link Spokesperson Kerry Zimmer. The company had a failure with their domain name server Tuesday afternoon and technicians resolved the outage shortly after, Zimmer said.

Since KHQ contacted Century Link, a service truck was sent to Lynch's business to get him back up and running. At that time, the company realized Lynch's extended outage was an isolated incidence, due to what they described as problems with his personal computer modem.

Lynch's Internet was back up and running by 6pm Wednesday night.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Location, location, location.  You may have seen a post making its way around social media of a house listing in Seattle for nearly $450,000. That sounds about right for the area, right? Well this house is a bit of a fixer upper. The kind with lots of potential if you invest the time and money.  Currently, however, it is shown on the real estate site Redfin in less than perfect condition.
