He stole the national spotlight last fall when he kicked a 67-yard field goal, and on Wednesday Austin Rehkow said he would be playing college football at the University of Idaho next season.
Rehkow, from Central Valley High School, signed a Letter of Intent alongside a handful of other athletes at his school Wednesday morning.
"I'm excited to go play for coach Petrino, and I'm looking forward to hopefully turning that program around and having a successful career down there," Rehkow told SWX.
Another high-profile recruit from Spokane, Danny Mattingly, committed to the University of Oregon after first verbally committing to Notre Dame. The Mead linebacker decided to stick with the Ducks, even though the coach that recruited him, Chip Kelly, decided to leave the program for the NFL.
"I was really disappointed when Coach Kelly left, but… they're keeping the rest of their staff, a lot of the great guys are still saying and a lot of the other recruits are still staying too,
said Mattingly. "I'm going to be around a lot of good guys and it's going to be a great four years."
