Winning Streak Snapped, Lose 76-51

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team gave up a huge run to end the first half and then again at the start of the second half, allowing the top-ranked Montana Grizzles to run away with a 76-51 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles, coming in with a 5 game winning streak, and trying to win their third straight in Missoula, couldn't get any offense going, and now drop to 12-9 on the season and 8-4 in conference. They now drop to a third place tie with Montana State at 8-4 and trail just a half game behind Northern Colorado who are 8 and 3 in conference play.

The Lady Griz used a 12-2 run to end the first half and a 10-4 run to start the second to give them a comfortable lead for the rest of the game. The closest the Eagles got in the second half was 17 points.

Montana's defense held Eastern to 30 percent shooting in the second half and 36 percent overall, including going 0-9 from 3-point range. Eastern finished the game with a season low 13.3 percent from behind the arc, well below their season average of 37 percent.

Junior Laura Hughes was the only Eagle to score in double figures finishing with 11 points. Sophomore Kylie Huerta had nine points and six assists, while senior Carrie Ojeda had seven points and six rebounds.

All-Big Sky first team forward Katie Baker lead all players with 22 points, going 10-15 from the field.

The Eagles return home to face Sacramento State, Thursday (Feb.7) and Northern Arizona Saturday (Feb.9) for its next two Big Sky matchups. Eastern looks to avenge losses to both of these teams earlier in the season when they were on the road.
