Two Arrested In Connection To South Hill Commercial Burglaries

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT) officers arrested two suspects, each with a history of property crime arrests, for a commercial burglary of the Lincoln Heights Radio Shack early this morning. Curtis McKelvey (12-26-83) and Chelsea A. Linerud (2-28-89) were booked on one count each of 2nd Degree Burglary.

Detectives are investigating the involvement of these suspects in nearly a dozen other commercial burglaries in the South Hill area.  

Over the past several weeks, Spokane Police Crime Analysis Unit has been monitoring specific trends of commercial burglaries in the Lincoln Heights area.  Using crime trend mapping the Crime Analysis Team discovered a pattern of several burglary incidents in businesses carrying electronics and hardware in the Lincoln Heights area. 

This information was forwarded to SPD Patrol Officers who monitored this area.   

This morning at approximately 5:15 am an SPD Patrol Officer Jason Uberuaga observed one of the suspects Curtis McKelvey acting suspiciously near the Lincoln Heights Radio Shack (2829 E. 29th).  Ofc. Uberuaga approached the building and arrived just as the suspect was breaking the window and gaining entry into the shop with a crow-bar. 

Upon seeing the officer, the suspect attempted to flee but was taken into custody. Ofc. Uberuaga also witnessed a suspicious vehicle driving in the area of the burglary.  Detectives were able to follow up on information that identified Chelsea Linerud as the driver of the getaway car for the burglary attempt.  

She was located and arrested this afternoon.   SPD Detectives are investigating a connection between these two suspects and nearly a dozen other commercial burglaries in the Lincoln Heights area.

"One of our focuses is trying to identify crime trends as quickly as possible," Spokane Police Captain Frank Scalise told KHQ. 

"So maybe if somebody's committed 3 or 4 crimes, we can get police there so they don't commit crimes 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 15 and 20, and other people don't become victims."
