KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The Hanford B Reactor and Hanford Cleanup tours are getting some recognition from a popular publication.
Seattle Met magazine honored the tours with their 2012 Northwest Travel Award.
The publication called the B Reactor a "marvel" and the Cleanup Tour a "fascinating" look at the "scale and urgency" of the project.
The Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau said this award will show people there are lots of tourist opportunities here besides all the wineries.
"There's something to appeal to everybody. The people that are very interested in history and the Manhattan Project for example, this is something that would attract them to the Tri-Cities that perhaps had they not read about it in the Seattle Metropolitan Magazine they wouldn't think to come and visit us and take a tour," said Kim Shugart, Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau Vice President.
The Hanford tour's 2,500 spots filled up in less than six hours in 2012. Registration for the tours opens in March and they run April through September.
