The Cat is Out of the Bag! Monopoly Announces New Game Piece

Posted: Updated:

New York, NY - Cat is in, Iron is out! The toy maker, Hasbro Inc. announced Wednesday the iron will leave the Monopoly board. Do not pass go and do not collect $200.

Instead, a new cat token will join the property-trading game. The change comes after an online vote for Facebook users, which closed just before midnight on Tuesday. Hasbro says in the final hours, the shoe, wheelbarrow and iron were neck and neck for elimination.

The vote marked the first time that fans had a say in adding or tossing the game pieces. This is also the first time the toy maker has changed up the tokens since the 1950's.

The new cat tokens should hit the shelves this year.
