Man Who Was Killed By Spokane Police Was Just Released From Jail Friday

SPOKANE, Wash – Jacob Dorfman, 52, lost his life in an early morning officer-involved shooting in Spokane Tuesday, after 911 calls came in of "shots fired" after Dorfman reportedly fired a gun inside an apartment complex, then ran from police.

It turns out, Dorfman was no stranger to law enforcement.

As KHQ reported Tuesday, he has at least 7 felony convictions in Grant and Spokane Counties, and was most recently arrested in Spokane January 19th

In that case, court records show Dorfman was parking outside the General Store in the 2400 block of N. Division in what police called a "getaway car," while a man and woman were inside the store stealing knives and a gun holster.

But when police approached Dorfman, court records show he sped off, leading them on a chase down several neighborhood streets, and running a stop sign before he got out of the car and started running on foot.  When police finally caught up with him, they seized meth and heroin off him.

He was arrested for attempting to elude police, possessing meth, possessing heroin and 5 warrants – as well as trafficking stolen property, including a guitar that was worth more than $5,000.

Records show Dorfman couldn't sign the court documents because he was "drug sick."

Just a week before Tuesday's deadly officer-involved shooting, Dorfman represented himself in court, waiving his right to a public defender.

He posted bond and was released from jail Friday.

Dorfman was supposed to be in court Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. on those charges, but never made it.

By 9 a-m, police were already hours in to their investigation into his death.

The names of the officers involved have not been released.
