UPDATE: The
Spokane County Medical Examiner has just released the name of the man
killed in an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning. He has
been identified as 52-year-old Jacob I. Dorfman.
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE INVESTIGATIVE REGIONAL RESPONSE TEAM: Shortly
after 1:00am on Tuesday officers from the Spokane Police Department
were involved in a shooting near the Huckleberry's at 9th and Monroe.
At approximately 1:18, 911 dispatchers received calls of shots fired in the area of 8th
and Adams. Responding officers observed the suspect in the area and a
short foot pursuit ensued. The suspect gained access to a vehicle and
sped away from the area with officers now engaged in a vehicle pursuit.
While attempting to flee, the suspect drove very recklessly including
traveling through several yards and fences. The suspect vehicle
eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of the Huckleberry's. Shots
were fired and the male suspect is deceased at the scene. Officers have
recovered a handgun at the scene.
The critical incident protocol was invoked and investigators from the
Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team (SIRR Team) are at the
scene. The investigation is ongoing and further details will be
disseminated as they become available.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Around 1 A.M. Tuesday morning Spokane Police
answered to a call of shots fired on the Lower South Hill. Officers
found the suspect on foot and followed.
The suspect got into a car and drove off. Officers pursued the
suspect and stopped the car near 9th and Monroe. Police Chief Frank
Straub won't go into details about what happened next but said that the
suspect died.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident. Monroe is
closed from 10th-8th and Chief Straub said it will be closed until
midday.
