UPDATE: Man Escapes From The Back Of Police Car In Airway Heights

Posted: Updated:
AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. - A man is back under arrest, after police say he escaped from the back of a Spokane Tribal Police car and took off running into the woods near the Spokane Raceway off Deno Road.

The Chief of Airway Heights told KHQ it all started when tribal police were serving a warrant for a suspect at the Lantern Park Motel on Highway 2. The suspect was with two associates who also had warrants for their arrest.

But one of them - who police say had a warrant for escape - escaped the patrol car and took off into the woods.

Airway Heights Police and the Spokane County Sheriffs Department responded to help Spokane Tribal Police, and set up a perimeter from Craig Road to Hayford Road along Deno Road.

After a 20-30 minute search, a K-9 unit was sent in to the woods. The suspect was located and complied with verbal commands, so he was not bit by the K9.

Still, medics from the Airway Heights Fire Department checked him out, before he was placed - again - in the back of a Spokane Tribal Police car.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
