MILES CITY, Mont. (AP) - A Custer County District High School student has been expelled after being charged with having a loaded handgun at school.
The Miles City Star reports (http://bit.ly/12EbNqV ) the Unified Board of Trustees made the decision to expel Clint Parsons last Tuesday after deliberating behind closed doors.
Superintendent Keith Campbell says the board decided to expel Parsons based on Campbell's recommendation. He says it was a tough decision but there has to be consequences for taking a gun to school.
The 18-year-old Parsons faces a criminal endangerment charge. Court records say Parsons told authorities he brought the .22-caliber handgun for protection Feb. 4 as a result of recent school shootings.
He faces a preliminary hearing on Feb. 21.
