Pot Related Bills Advance in State Legislature

SEATTLE, Wash. - Two marijuana-related bills are advancing in Olympia.

A House committee Ok'd a measure on Thursday that would allow people to quickly vacate misdemeanor marijuana convictions in the state. A Senate committee also advanced a measure providing arrest protection for patients under the state's medical marijuana law.

Both votes came before a Friday deadline for bills dealing with policy matters to be passed out of committee.

The House bill is made to clear records of people convicted of minor pot-related crimes that is now legal under state law.

The Senate bill would make it clear that officers should not arrest medical marijuana patients.
    
Last fall Washington voters approved Initiative 502, legalizing possession of marijuana up to an ounce by adults 21 and older.
