SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police have given the Knitting Factory the go-ahead to host concerts again, after the venue's entertainment license was suspended on Monday.
Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub made the decision to close the venue after a gang shooting outside the concert hall early Monday morning. Straub said later that the Knitting Factory is a "hotbed" for crime.
Greg Marchant, the Knitting Factory COO, entered in into discussion with Police Chief Straub and Spokane Mayor David Condon almost immediately about ways they could get the entertainment venue re-opened.
It was announced Thursday that an agreement had been made by both sides and the venue has been re-opened. The agreement involved an "entertainment safety plan," where both sides would increase the amount of information exchanged along with cooperation before and after shows.
Greg Marchant made it a point to emphasize to everyone that the safety of their customers and community members is their number one priority.
Only one concert, 509 Lyrical Masterminds, was canceled during the brief shut down. That concert, which was scheduled for Friday, February 22nd has been re-scheduled for Saturday, March 9th.
