Washington State Patrol Trooper Fired For Shooting At Fleeing Car

Posted: Updated:

SEATTLE (AP) - The Washington State Patrol has fired a trooper accused of an unjustified shooting last April in Renton.

The patrol says Trooper Jeff Laeuger was not in danger when he fired at a car that ran over his foot and was driving away.

The trooper's union told KING (http://is.gd/d7jXid ) the decision was "Monday morning quarterbacking" and that Laeuger fired within two or three seconds of being hit. He felt his life was in danger.

Laeuger has appealed his firing to the patrol's disciplinary review board.
