Washington Records Zero Driving Fatalities for Teens 16 and 17 in 2012
WASHINGTON - The Governors Highway Safety Administration says Washington state is seeing a dramatic decrease in the number of teen driving fatalities.
According to the report, Washington had the third biggest decrease in teen driving deaths from six in 2011, to zero in 2012.
Compare that statistic nationally, where teen driving fatalities were up nearly 20% in the first half of 2012.
The Safety Administration wants to remind drivers that car accidents are the most common killer of teens, and distracted driving is a serious safety hazard.
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission, State Farm Insurance and 46 high schools throughout the state ran programs warning against the dangers of distracted driving, where students were able to generate enthusiasm for safe drivers. 35 high schools have signed up for the program again in 2013.
