ALERT: Fred Meyer Recalls Wheat Bread Due To Plastic

Posted: Updated:

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Fred Meyer has recalled five types of private label wheat bread after discovering pieces of plastic in loaves delivered to stores in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

The Oregonian reports (http://goo.gl/SWZ15) the bread was also sold in QFC stores in Oregon and Washington. They all featured March 8 sell-by date.

Fred Meyer spokeswoman Melinda Merrill says the plastic was discovered in the retailer's Clackamas, Ore., bakery. She says so far no customers have reported finding any plastic in purchased loaves.

She says loaves have been pulled from store shelves and the retailer is investigating.

Customers who are members of Fred Meyer and QFC loyalty programs will receive calls to warn them about the recall. Customers can also bring the loaves to stores for a refund or exchange.
