Feser Breaks Record, Americans Fall to Thunderbirds

From Tri-City Americans

Kennewick, WA- The whistle was blown, the puck was dropped and Justin Feser's name was carved into the record books.

Feser's 312th consecutive game is one he might like to have back, as the Seattle Thunderbirds (22-35-7-1, 52 pts) scored two first period goals, spoiling Feser's record breaking party while the Tri-City Americans (37-23-1-2, 77 pts) dropped a tough contest 3-1 in front of 5,040 at the Toyota Center.

Spokane's win tonight moves them one point ahead of Tri-City for fourth place in the conference.

The Americans snapped a season-high six game win streak and a four game win streak against the Thunderbirds. Seattle halted a four game losing streak overall.

Seattle came out fast and set the tone early, out playing the Americans in the first period. The Thunderbirds struck first as Seattle banged away at a loose puck on the right side of the net, with Seth Swenson eventually swatting it into the net to take a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Seattle increased the lead to 2-0 on a loose puck that was fired into the net by Roberts Lipsbergs. The Thunderbirds doubled up the Americans in the shot department 14-7 in the first period and carried a two goal lead into the second.

Tri-City picked up their play in the second period and started to gain some momentum. The Americans got on the board midway through the period when Drydn Dow fired a slap shot from the point, which was redirected into the net by Connor Rankin to cut the lead to one. Seattle outshot the Americans again in the second period 11-8 as the Americans looked to tie the game in the third.

The Americans pressed throughout the third period to tie the game, having two power play chances in the beginning of the period but unable to capitalize on either. Tri-City outshot Seattle in the period 14-6 and pulled Troy Trombley from the goal with over two minutes remaining to try and tie the game. Seattle's defense kept the Americans out of the net and Luke Lockhart sealed the victory with an empty net goal with three seconds remaining to cap the Seattle win.

Both teams were unable to score on the power play and were a combined 0-for-9.

Feser had an assist tonight, making it seven straight games with a point.

Trombley made 28 saves in his first loss of the season while Brandon Glover stopped 28 shots for Seattle in the win.

Tri-City will complete the home-and-home series tomorrow night as they hit the road for three games, starting with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the ShoWare Center. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. The Americans won the last meeting in Kent 4-3 in overtime in early February.
